Snow coming? Get those sledges ready…….

From yesterday the BBC has been trailing snow forecast for the end of the week. Great. It’s exactly the news that retailers have been waiting for to get sales of sledges going. There is a saying that you don’t need snow to sell sledges, just Christmas. the truth is you don’t need snow, just the threat of snow.

So, get those old sledges from last year down from the top shelves of the storeroom, dust them down and get them out on display. They will sell like hot cakes once the snow starts. Even if it’s not widespread, the media love a trend and after last years two big bouts of snow, lasting a long time, they are itching for a ‘bad weather’ story.

Therefore any snowfall at all will be covered in detail, with lots of great images, and all those people who promised themselves last year that this year they will be prepared will be reminded.

Dont say we did not warn you, and don’t miss out. The big sledge sales start on thursday.

All Sledge Retailers target Christmas

Last winter was the coldest for many years, with at least two burst of significant snowfall for all areas of the UK. In the January snowfall especially, the country stopped work and went sledging.

Most Sledge retailers sold out within hours of the snow being forecast.

For retailers the problem is that when it snows there is never enough time to replenish stocks, and there is always the fear that the snow may not come.

So all across the industry this year, there is a drive for Christmas Present sales. With the memory of snow fresh in consumers minds, most retailers are planning a big Christmas push for sledges, to be ready for the snow when it comes.

Paul Rogers of Big Game Hunters Wooden Sledges said: ‘Once the snow comes we can not increase stocks, since most carriers are not delivering, so we need to educate our customers to think in advance. We have some great new products, and we will be promoting heavily in the run up to Christmas, snow or no snow.’

Simon Staton of Etoyszone Sledges agreed, ‘We expect many customers who could not buy one last year to want to get in early this year. We are ready for bumper sales.’
